No Boundaries Coalition
Food Justice and Healthy Food Access Organizer
Position Announcement and Job Description
Background:
The No Boundaries Coalition is a resident-led initiative with the mission to create a unified and empowered Central West Baltimore across the boundaries of race, class and neighborhoods. The Coalition mobilizes residents from seven different neighborhoods in Baltimore City to challenge the culture of, and the issues created by, segregation. We believe that the people living in segregation are the best to work towards solutions. The relationships created by the Coalition displace the fear, distrust and stereotypes created by segregation with understanding, collaboration, and trust. Our cross-neighborhood relationships build political capital and mobilize residents to address issues together.
Our healthy food access project grew out of a listening campaign with neighborhood residents and builds on a successful produce market we piloted in 2014. Through resident leadership and food desert research, the Coalition has created a comprehensive solution that includes opening a new produce market, collaborating with existing corner stores to offer healthy foods, creating a collective buying program for store owners, creating an advertising campaign, and extending food stamp “Double Your Dollars” program benefits.
